Volunteers

Our volunteers love what they do and feel a great sense of personal satisfaction by giving their time and talents to helping others. Also, recent research studies show that volunteering results in significant health benefits, including lower rates of depression and less incidence of heart disease!

There are many opportunities to volunteer with Lutheran Home Care & Hospice. If you have an interest, skill or desire to help people, contact us to learn about the many options.

If you want to volunteer one day a week, here are some things you could do:

Provide the services of a friend such as companionship to hospice clients and respite for their family members, perform errands or other support of hospice families such as preparing meals or taking a client or family to appointments, or provide comfort to clients who are actively dying and alone. Make bereavement telephone calls and/or visits to the family with the goal of developing a close and trusting relationship that supports the family throughout the 13-month bereavement period.

If you want to volunteer one day a month, here are some things you could do:

Share a unique talent to help hospice clients such as singing, aromatherapy, and massage. Assist with office work, mailings, photocopying, filing, assembling information packets and other duties. Assist with fund raising programs.

If you want to volunteer one or two hours a month, here are some things you could do:

Deliver or bake Bereavement Bread for our hospice families. A loaf of sweet bread is delivered by a volunteer approximately 2-3 weeks after a client's death. During the delivery visit, the volunteer offers condolences on behalf of hospice and recaps the availability of continual bereavement services.
